Custom Dakimakura Body Pillow Covers: Sizes, Fabrics & Artwork Guide

A custom dakimakura gives full-length character artwork a product format designed around vertical composition. For artists and creator brands, the main decisions are size, fabric, front-and-back layout and how clearly the listing explains what the customer receives.

Animepa’s standard custom dakimakura products are pillow covers only. Inner pillows, filler and stuffing are not supplied. Shipping covers without inserts reduces international freight volume and allows customers to purchase a compatible inner locally.

Current dakimakura sizes

The standard options include:

• 50 × 150 cm / 20 × 60 in
• 50 × 160 cm / 20 × 63 in
• Custom sizes by confirmation

The 40 × 120 cm option is a smaller long-pillow format that uses less display and shipping space. The 50 × 150 cm option is a widely used body-pillow size for full-length artwork. The 50 × 160 cm option provides additional vertical space.

Prepare the artwork at the ratio of the selected size. Do not stretch a 50 × 150 cm file to 50 × 160 cm without adjusting the composition.

Animepa’s current body pillow cover variants include Peach Skin, Natural Velvet and 2 Way Tricot.

Peach Skin

An accessible fabric option for printed dakimakura covers and small-batch merchandise. It can suit creators who want to test a design at a lower product price.

Natural Velvet

A softer velvet-style surface that gives the cover a different hand feel and product positioning from Peach Skin.

2 Way Tricot

A stretch-oriented premium dakimakura fabric commonly selected when smooth feel and higher-end presentation are important.

Material preference is subjective. A sample helps compare hand feel, stretch, print appearance and photography. Confirm the exact fabric choice before preparing customer descriptions.

Prepare front and reverse artwork separately

Dakimakura covers are usually designed with two long artwork faces.

Your order files should state:

• Design name
• Front artwork
• Reverse artwork
• Selected size
• Fabric
• Quantity

Use clear filenames such as character-a-front-50x150.psd and character-a-back-50x150.psd. Do not send two unlabeled files and rely on the factory to guess orientation.

Design for the long product ratio

Full-body character artwork works naturally, but other layouts are possible:

• Standing character
• Reclining character
• Alternate outfit on the reverse
• Two expressions
• Character plus themed background
• Original mascot or fursona

Keep important details inside the safe area. Hair, fingers, shoes and text should not sit directly against the finished edge or zipper area.

Use a high-resolution PSD, AI, PNG, PDF or JPG file. A layered file makes position adjustments easier. Review the digital mockup at full size, not only as a small phone preview.

Color and print expectations

Artwork is viewed on a backlit RGB display, while fabric is a physical printed surface. Differences in monitor calibration, fabric texture and lighting can change how colors appear.

Before production, check skin-tone relationships, gradients, dark shadow detail, small text and front/reverse orientation. Consider a sample for color-sensitive launches.

Do not promise that printed color will be identical to every customer’s monitor.

How MOQ works for multiple dakimakura designs

Animepa’s current standard body pillow cover lists an MOQ of five pieces per selected size and fabric.

Within the same selected specification, multiple artwork designs can share the five-piece total.

Example:

• Product: custom dakimakura cover
• Size: 50 × 150 cm
• Fabric: Peach Skin
• Total quantity: 5
• Designs: 5
• Quantity: 1 per design

The order does not require five copies of every artwork.

If sizes or fabrics change, list each allocation separately for production confirmation. Different products—such as dakimakura covers, shaped pillow covers and mini pillow keychains—cannot be combined automatically to reach one MOQ.

Cover only versus filled pillow products

The standard Animepa dakimakura product includes the printed pillow cover, selected fabric and front-and-reverse customization.

It does not include an inner pillow, filling or stuffing.

This distinction should appear in the product title or key specifications, description, convention sign, FAQ and packaging insert.

The mini pillow keychain is a separate product and can include filling. Do not apply its construction to standard body pillow covers.

Sell dakimakura covers responsibly

Use artwork that you created, commissioned with commercial manufacturing rights or are otherwise authorized to produce and sell.

Focus on original characters, VTuber artwork, fursona and anthro characters, licensed collaborations, creator-owned game artwork and authorized projects.

Animepa keeps customer artwork confidential and uses it for approved custom production.

Plan convention display and inventory

Dakimakura covers are large visual products but can be sold as compact folded covers.

At a booth:

• Use one filled display sample if permitted
• State clearly that sale units are cover only
• Show the size and fabric
• Keep sale inventory folded and protected
• Place matching acrylics or smaller items nearby
• Avoid blocking neighboring booths with a large hanging display
